GOLFERS NEWSLETTER AUGUST 2008

Dear friends of Queens,

CAFE AT QUEENS
The cafe operations at Queens have changed hands.  The cafe will come under our Poh Bros umbrella  and we hope to bring you better service with all our outlets under one management.

We apologies for the inconvenience of the cafe closure the past few days but we promise you delicious varieties when we re-open.

Home-cooked Peranakan food comes to Queens!

Nonya 63
....what's that??

Well from a Peranakan kitchen comes a Nonya cook and in the Hokkien dialect 63 sounds like lak-sa.....thus Nonya 63 (or rather Nonya laksa) our signature dish will roll out this Friday 22 August when operations resume.

Different varieties of local food will be served daily so come with an empty stomach and enjoy your meals while you practise.

GOLF TIP
Very often, we dread it when our ball goes into a bunker.  This time around, our pros share their thoughts on tackling shots from the sand trap and we hope these will give you more confidence in making your next bunker shot.

In a shallow greenside bunker, there are several ways to get to the pin besides the usual shot with the sand wedge.  If there is plenty of green between the bunker and the pin, you can use your pitching wedge or a short iron for a chip-and-run shot.

In a situation like this, do not take too much sand as the ball will not run.  The key is to make sure that the clubhead skims only the surface of the sand.

For a good contact, set up with the ball in the middle of your stance with the shaft in a neutral position.

With a bunker lip to clear, do not lean the shaft forward (though this is good for running the ball long).

Set your mind on where to land the ball and accelerate through impact.
