Tournament Diary International Championship 2007

INAUGURAL ASEAN TOUR - INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP 2007

After a 9 month break from the Asian Tour, I am glad I decided to get back into the competitive circuit by playing in the inaugural Asean Tour's International Championship held at the Imperial Klub Golf in Jakarta.

When I arrived at the Club, I realised that I made a mistake every professional should not make and that was to fail to check the statistics of the golf course before my departure.  I swopped the driver in my bag only to find that it was a long course and I needed that trusty driver of mine which I left behind.

I scored a Hole-in-One on the 157 yard 5th Hole Par 3 during my practise round.   It was a crisp shot that went straight for the pin and scoring it on the Club's signature hole made the achievement even more memorable.

I struck the ball fairly well during the first 2 rounds, scoring 76,71 which put me on 6th place, 4 strokes off the lead.  On the 3rd and final rounds, my irons didn't work well for me but my short game saved me  on many occassions leaving me with scores of 75,75.  It was a decent score considering the fact that I only hit 7 greens on Day 3 and 5 greens on the final day.  The statistics are not out but I believe I would have topped the putting average of 29 putts with 30,31,28 & 27  putts over all 4 rounds.......good figures for the very undulating super fast greens.  Moving to tied 4th after the 3 round put me in good contention but some costly mistakes saw me ending up in 8th place on the final day.

Well overall I'm pleased with my effort after such a long break and it's back to the gym and working on my irons to sharpen up before the next event in the Philippines in October.
